Diagnosing Via Modem Using AppleTalk Remote Access:
Until you get the Alert! Modem Communicator application, if you and the remote Macintosh user both own AppleTalk Remote Access (often referred to simply as “ARA”), you may fix and repair any machine across the phone lines in another city by establishing a AppleTalk network connection via AppleTalk Remote Access.
Simply follow the instructions that came with ARA to establish a connection over the telephone line, then follow our instructions for diagnosing a Macintosh across a network using the Alert! Responder and the Alert! application. Note that FileShare does not have to be turned on in order to use Alert! via AppleTalk Remote Access.
